Khaled Hosseini is an acclaimed Afghan-American novelist and physician, best known for his debut novel, The Kite Runner, which has been a major international bestseller. His subsequent novels, A Thousand Splendid Suns and And the Mountains Echoed, have also received widespread popularity and critical acclaim. Hosseini's work primarily explores themes of redemption, fate, and the human impact of political turmoil, set against the backdrop of his native Afghanistan.

Hosseini was born in Kabul, Afghanistan, and moved to the United States in 1980 following the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. He is a graduate of the University of California, San Diego, School of Medicine, and practiced medicine for over ten years before becoming a full-time writer. In addition to his literary career, Hosseini is also a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and has established The Khaled Hosseini Foundation, which provides humanitarian assistance to the people of Afghanistan.
