We make authoritative and realistic assessments of their quality, architecturally and theatrically, and, in the case of 'sleepers', separate the hopeless cases from those which have real potential and those whose reopening as theatres should be a top priority, In addition to its critical assessment of more than 650 the Guide contains details of hundreds of lost theatres and biographical notes on the principal theatre architects. The Theatres Trust was established by Act of Parliament in 1976 to promote the better protection of theatres for the benefit of the nation. With a remit that now extends over the whole of the UK, the Trust works with the Arts Councils, theatre managements and local theatre preservation bodies, providing advice on theatre planning, design and conservation. |
