The Better World Books community supports local libraries and worldwide literacy every day. Thanks to you, the gift of reading becomes a reality - every little purchase you make supports our nonprofit partners in a big way, and now we're pleased to announce LEAP (Literacy and Education in Action Program).
LEAP funds literacy and educational nonprofits and libraries for specific projects — the front lines of the fight to reduce global poverty through education.
Here's how it works: certain times a year we invite literacy-focused organizations to apply for grants for specific, high-impact literacy projects. Nonprofit groups or libraries write up what they will do with their grant (down to the dollar), and then we fund the projects we think will have the biggest bang for the buck.
These LEAP projects are funded through our General Literacy Fund which means we grant them in addition to the regular stream of revenue we already earmark for libraries and our nonprofit partners.
Though the name is new, we've been standing up for literacy efforts by strategic funding for years. Some were voted on by our community (via our Readers' Choice Literacy Grant)
Without your purchases, your book donations, and you spreading the word, there would be nothing to give. Our literacy funding is 100% customer-powered.
That means that you are changing lives, bettering communities, and opening doors across the globe. So now that you know the impact you have on the world, let's keep this movement in motion!
