About the Book

McGraw-Hill has done a considerable amount of research over the last few years, including research about students. To find out more about today's students, what they need, and how they behave, McGraw-Hill hired anthropologists to conduct an ethnographic research study on STUDENTS. We sent these scientists in to study where students live, work, play, study, and learn. Through several surveys and even ethnographic research, students have given us a better idea of the type of textbook they want to be using. When you view this slide, the types of characteristics students are looking for in a textbook probably won't surprise you. In fact, we are determined to make Core Concepts in Health learning system more personal in a way that it can address the ways in which they want to learn. We also wanted to develop a system that is easier for you, the instructor, to use; a system that enables you to teach personal health in a more effective and efficient way. So this is what we have done: We've created Connect for Personal Health, which is now seamlessly and deeply integrated with Blackboard and Blackboard related course management systems. Only one sign-on is needed for access to Blackboard and Connect, the grade book is integrated, and much much more. We've created LearnSmart for Personal Health, which is an adaptive learning system that assesses students' mastery of the core concepts and creates a individualized study plan for each student, which should result in higher student confidence, better test scores, and a different classroom experience in which students are prepared to discuss, brainstorm, and build skills. At the instructor, the time you spend preparing for and giving lectures is significantly reduced, if not eliminated, and you'll have the time to engage with your students rather than spoon feed them content that they will quickly forget. To address today's students' need for less expensive, more portable, and more relevant classroom tools, we are considering significantly lowering the price of Core Concepts in Health by providing the book in a three-hole punched, loose-leaf version. At nearly half the cost of a new book and approximately the same cost that a rented or used book, this option allows for complete portability. -By using a loose leaf version of the book, students only need to carry the portion of the book that's being covered in class with them. This loose leaf version addresses students' need for portability. Today's students are busy The loose leaf version is light and easy to carry to class, to work, on the bus, or wherever else they plan to study and learn. -Students not only get a print version of the book, for the same price they also receive an integrated multimedia ebook that includes videos and links to other resources. -Students also receive, for the same price, an access code to Connect and LearnSmart, which provide a number of interactive multimedia tools that will help them learn. -And if that's not enough, Connect Core Concepts in Health is now seamlessly and deeply integrated with Blackboard and Blackboard related course management systems. Only one sign-on is needed, the grade book is integrated, and much much more. -Would you still like your students to have a bound book? You can find one within our CREATE system.
