Product Description

Whether on a weekend city break or a month-long trekking vacation, this handy litle guide will be your indispensable companion. Taking photos that really capture the essence of your time away is a real skill, and swamped with a multitude of choices, it can be hard to organise your time and focus on the shots that really matter.

Written by Michael Freeman, one of the world's leading travel photographers, this portable mine of information takes a hands-on approach to travel photography, offering a comprehensive guide to planning and executing your trip. Advice covers everything and includes: choosing what to photograph and how to do it, coping with challenging lighting conditions, and negotiating customs and security issues.

The subjects section covers a diverse array of settings, including: safaris, deserts, diving, cycling, mountains and water. This ensures that, whatever situation you encounter, you have the information you need to take stunning shots right at your fingertips.

The themes section takes a more conceptual approach, and is packed with invaluable advice on situations you may encounter: shooting, for example, worship scenes, markets, landscapes and light. There is even a section on reworking cliches, so you can visit the much-photographed sites of the world and come away with something truly unique.

Packed with stunning shots, and rooted entirely in the photographers own experiences, this is a highly practical approach to a key area of photography, and an inspirational guide for photographers on the move everywhere.

* Indispensable pocket-sized guide to travelling with your digital SLR camera
* Packed with stunning images, illustrating how and what to photograph
* Written by Michael Freeman, one of the world's leading travel photographers

  • Rating great little book to pack along with photo gear when traveling  Dec 29, 2009 (9 of 9 found this helpful)

I'm not sure i realized i was getting a "field guide" when i ordered this item. I think i was mainly trying to get my total to just over $25 for free shipping. However, I am glad i got this book. it's small enough to fit in a jacket pocket or camera bag & provides a lot of useful info-- especially if you are traveling w/ your camera equipment. Just remember to read, peruse book first! before you go...
IT is well organized... especially like the coverage of the different types of lighting one might encounter... Of course, author has tremendous amount of photo travel experience & shares freely from this. There are many wonderful photos (from around the world) included to illustrate a lot of what he is presenting. On a practical note, the reference section about clearing customs, legal restrictions, (international) power/plug configurations -- with a table listing many, many countries...
suffice to say this little gem (about 200 pages) is not only inexpensive, well-built (don't think the pages will start falling out any time soon), and informative... it's got a friendly tone. kind of like a buddy sharing some insights. not bad at all! recommend highly.

  • Rating Very, very Basic  Feb 7, 2010 (2 of 2 found this helpful)

Since other books from Michael Freeman are amazing an full of tips, this particular mini-one is a basic-from-the-beginning guide to plan your trip and make all necessary arrangements. 80% of the tips are those that a normal traveller (cover your lents, bring an extra battery with you, beware of rain, a tripod may help you at night ...) is already doing and he didn't add anything new to my prior knowledge. The problem comes when I guess that almost 99% of the people will agree with me after reading this book.

  • Rating good book to learn composition  Mar 10, 2010

i have been in photography for years, but i still have a problem with composition, and getting it right, this book was very good at helping with that..

  • Rating The Photographer's Eye Field Guide  Feb 8, 2010

Though small in size, this book is big one two things: All the essential information you need to know about doing photography wherever you may happen to find yourself in the world, and, helping you get inspired with a number of lush photographic ideas and examples.

These sections, written in a direct, easy-to-understand format, will help you prepare for the trip, provide invaluable practical advice for when you're traveling, and offer, through superb illustrative images by one of the world's most respected travel photographers, masterful guidance on how, what and when to photograph.
