A thoroughly enjoyable book, from the lapel-grabbing beginning, to the 'that's the way I would've written it' ending. And for those of us who live here, there's the little thrill of familiarity that comes from reading a story that takes place in DC/NOVA. Ms Line has crafted a coherent, compact, no-wasted-words suspense story. She winds the action from the north to the south, from the big city to quiet countryside. She introduces a modern, lively romance between the no b.s. FBI heroine and the not-so-shrinking-violet professor. Line provides an imperfect but trusty sidekick, and produces a satisfyingly despicable villain. Add wry/dry repartee, a quick pace, a cute dog, and you have a highly recommendable book. Buy it - you'll see what I mean. Eagerly anticipating a longer, more in-depth follow up effort from Ms Line. Preferably by December.
This is not your dad's detective novel.I really liked D.L. Line's new book because it's exciting, and brings real human beings in modern times into the genres of suspense and crime. Oh, and did I mention "hot girl-on-girl action"! I've read all the great detective novels, and I've known and worked with many law enforcement agencies. D.L. Line's story comes across gritty and believable. I couldn't wait to pick-up where I left off.
