Comments about Olive Kitteridge:
I found this incredibly depressing. The main character, Olive, does finally, at long last, gain some personal insight but at an enormous cost to her son, her husband, and herself. I was fully engaged and found many fascinating characters throughout the journey and there's no denying it's well-written. I felt oddly removed from Olive and yet anxious to see what would become of her and the people she touched. Strange to say I was fully engaged yet not with Olive. Perhaps it was watching a woman walk through her life with so little personal insight, surrounded by people who did have some personal insight. In the end, I read it because I felt I should and was compelled to finish it because I wanted to know what happened. I can't say I'd recommend it. Wish I'd read it with a book club in order to share reactions.
