Why should I use the Reuse First program for Libraries?

We get more “bang for your book” and we donate a percentage of net sales to one of our nonprofit literacy partners. We upload and closely monitor your books on 18 different marketplaces, thus maximizing the chances of selling your books at the best price. Leave the book selling to us and you’ll have more time to spend around the library, in the community or at home.

What does the Reuse First for Libraries program cost?

Nothing! We often hear that our program is “too good to be true.” There are no service agreements (unless requested), sign-up fees, monthly fees or one-time fees. We understand the budget constraints many libraries across the nation are facing and as a result charge you nothing.

How does the payment system work?

Your library and literacy partner will earn a percentage of net sales. (Net sales are defined as the sale price of the book minus any marketplace commissions. For example, a book sold on Amazon.com for $100.00 would have a net sale price of $85.00 after their 15% marketplace commission). Payments are made every calendar quarter assuming an account accrues a minimum of $50 in commission payable. Commissions will roll over until the $50 mark is reached.

Who determines the merchantability of the books?

We do (with your help). Anything that you would be unhappy receiving as a customer, we ask that you not send. If you can handle that, be confident that we are doing our best to sell the most books at the best prices.

No shipping costs? Really?

Yes. We take tremendous pride in being able to do this. We also have a dedicated Support Acquisitions Team to help you choose the best shipping method for your library. Using RUFIS, you can login and easily set up our free shipping. For our large volume customers we use a freight company and for smaller shipments UPS picks up the boxes at your location. In either case, it is no cost to your library!

What if state regulations prohibit the sale of materials?

Better World Books understands that many states have regulations regarding the sale of discarded books but even in those states we may very well still be able to work with your library. Contact us to discover your options.

What is the Prescreen Tool? Is it required?

The Prescreen Tool, which can be found in RUFIS, allows you to check whether or not your books are appropriate for the online marketplace. It is as easy as scanning the ISBN bar code on a book and reading the screen.

Academic libraries are not required to use the Prescreen Tool because their books are typically of higher value; however, they are highly encouraged to do so. Public libraries at this time are required to use the Tool.

If I work with you can I still run my local book sale?

Of course you can. Books declined by our Prescreen Tool are usually great for local book sales. This is a great way to get the best value from your discarded and donated materials.
