How does selling my books to you work?
Selling your books to Better World Books is easy. Just enter the ISBNs of the books you are interested in selling. The books will be added to your buyback cart and our buyback price will be shown. Adjust the quantities and choose how you want to be paid. If you choose PayPal, you’ll need to enter the e-mail address associated with your PayPal account.
Choose the literacy partner you want your buyback to benefit and decide if you would like to make an additional contribution to that partner’s literacy initiatives. You will also need to select your address. If you make any changes to your buyback cart, be sure to click ‘Update Cart’.
Click ‘Agree to BuyBack’ and print your pre-paid USPS Media Mail label and packing slip. Next, simply package your books and drop them in the mail. Once we receive your books in our warehouse, we’ll process them and issue payment.
Do you really make a donation to literacy when I sell my books to you?
Yes. Every time you sell your books to Better World Books, you are helping bring literacy and opportunity to people around the world. For each book we purchase, we’ll make a donation to one of our five primary literacy partners. We even let you choose which of our partners you want your buyback to benefit. You can make an additional donation by choosing to give part of your buyback total when you confirm your order. Our primary literacy partners are Books for Africa, Room to Read, Worldfund, and the National Center for Family Literacy.
How will you pay me?
You have a few of options. We recommend choosing Gift Certificate or PayPal because you'll get paid more and it's fast, green, and secure. If you prefer not get paid with a Gift Certificate or through PayPal, we can do it the old fashion way and mail a check to you. It will just take longer and you won’t get paid as much. Don't have PayPal? Visit https://www.paypal.com to learn how to sign up. Sorry, we cannot send you cash - only these cash equivalents.
When will I get paid?
We know there are a few books on BetterWorldBooks.com you are dying to have, so we’ll get you your money as fast as we can. All payments are normally processed within 3-5 business days of receiving your buyback.
How long is the price quote good for?
Price quotes are good for a limited time only. Books must be postmarked within 7 days and received within 30 days of your buyback order. If your package is postmarked more than 7 days or received more than 30 days after your order was placed we will re-evaluate the books based on current buyback prices. The new price quote may be different from your original offer. If upon re-evaluation we are no longer offering payment for the book, it will be entered into our inventory as a donation. We are not able to return these items.
How do you determine your buyback prices?
Our buyback prices are set based on current availability and future demand.
Who pays for shipping?
If your buyback total is at least five dollars or you choose to donate at least three books, shipping is free! We pay for shipping when you use the pre-paid USPS Media Mail label we provide at checkout. If you choose to use a different service or carrier, we cannot reimburse you for shipping. Please do not use Priority Mail envelopes or boxes when using our prepaid Media Mail label. This will help us keep our costs down which helps keep our buyback prices higher.
Is my package insured?
Sorry, but our pre-paid mailing label covers USPS Media Mail postage only. You may choose to insure your package or receive a delivery confirmation at your expense. The seller assumes liability until the books are delivered to our warehouse. Better World Books is not responsible for items lost or damaged in the mail.
Can I sell you multiple copies of a book?
Yes. As long as you don’t enter a quantity higher than our desired purchase quantity, you can sell us up to ten copies of a book. If you have more than ten copies of a book to sell, send an e-mail to buyback@betterworldbooks.com . We’ll be happy to check out your books and see if we can authorize additional copies.
How many books can I ship in one order?
You can sell us up to 10 different books per buyback order. If your books will not all fit in one package, please create a separate buyback order for each package. This makes things easier on us which means you get paid faster.
What paperwork do I need to include in my package?
All you need to include is your packing slip.
How long does it take to process my order?
The biggest factor in the length of time it will take to process your buyback order is the USPS. Our prepaid mailing label covers postage for USPS Media Mail which usually takes 4-14 business days, but it can take up to 21. Once we receive your books, we will process them and issue payment within 3-5 business days. Remember, you will receive your payment faster if you choose PayPal rather than check.
What is an ISBN?
An ISBN is a unique ten or thirteen digit code used to identify a book. Each edition of a book will have its own ISBN. An ISBN can be found on the back of the book near the barcode or on the copyright page which is near the beginning of the book. When entering an ISBN, be sure to include any leading zeros and leave out the dashes. An ISBN can end with the letter X.
Do I have to include the software that came with my book?
CD’s, access codes essential to use of the book, or any other components that are required for usage of the book must be included. Optional components such as posters, maps, trial software, color wheels, and flash cards do not need to be included.
Do you purchase study guides?
We do purchase study guides, workbooks and lab manuals, but they can’t be missing any pages or have writing or other marks in them.
Do you buy instructor’s editions or international editions?
Sorry, but we don’t purchase instructor’s editions, instructor review copies, complimentary copies, international editions, global editions, free copies, or eastern economy editions.
Does the condition of my books matter? How do you determine condition?
Yes, condition matters. Your books don’t have to look brand new, but they must be in good or better condition. Books can have some scratches or dings on the cover, and even some highlighting or writing. We do not purchase books with water damage, binding damage, missing pages or excessive writing or highlighting.
When you choose to sell your books to Better World Books, you are agreeing to our condition guidelines and the final grade we assign it. We reserve the right to refuse the purchase of any item if we do not find it to match our guidelines or conditions.
What happens if I send a book that isn’t in good or better condition?
We want to keep you coming back, so it is in our best interest to grade your books correctly. If we do receive a book that isn’t in good or better condition, we’ll contact you to let you know. We will be more than happy to return items that are not in good condition. However we cannot cover the cost of return shipping, and will require return shipping costs be paid.
What happens if I don’t include all of the books on my packing slip?
If we receive your package and all of the books on your packing slip are not there, we’ll go ahead and pay you for what we did receive. We’ll also contact you to let you know there were books missing from your shipment.
What happens if I send the wrong book?
If you send us an incorrect book or a book that is not on your packing slip, we will contact you to let you know. We will be more than happy to return wrong books. However we cannot cover the cost of return shipping, and will require return shipping costs be paid. Alternatively, you may elect to be paid for these books based on current buyback value. If your books don’t have a buyback value, they will be treated as a donation.
Will you purchase books from customers outside the United States?
Currently our buyback is only available to customers in the United States, but we are always exploring the possibility of expansion.
