It is our privilege to examine books from a wide spectrum of time, and we harbor a special affinity for the actual art and design of the book. Recently, we came across a set of small octavo booklets in brown paper wraps, printed by the turn-of-the-century printer Elbert Hubbard. Hubbard's printshop and publishing house was referred to as The Roycrofters, and took inspiration from the Arts & Crafts movement initiated by William Morris of the Kelmscott Press.
Reviewing this particular group of items by Hubbard chronologically, you can see the evolution of his artistry: from a clean late-Victorian style to the more intricate Arts and Crafts look. Hubbard himself was an excellent salesman and a tireless promoter, evidenced by a signed letter from him which was included in this set.
The watermark on his stationary is a self-portrait, which can be seen when held to the light. The set is an excellent example of how typography, layout, color, and paper styles can evolve in even a small amount of time, and how all of these things affect one's reading experience.

Loving Frank by Nancy Horan Reviewed by Becky Sansone
After writing a research paper on Frank Lloyd Wright in college, studying him in class and visiting his Dana Thomas House in Springfield, Illinois- I have always been left wanting to learn more. I originally heard about the book Loving Frank
from a friend reading it for her book club. As soon as I found out it was about Wright I knew I had to give it a try.
A work of historical fiction, Nancy Horan's Loving Frank tells the story of the love affair between Frank Lloyd Wright and Mamah Borthwick Cheney. Written through the eyes of Mamah, Loving Frank
blends historical facts of the time and the life of Frank Lloyd Wright with the narrative of Mamah and her struggle to choose from her family and children, her true love in Frank, her calling to the women's rights movement, or what society deems proper for an early 20th century American woman. Culminating with a shock, the gracefully written story of Mamah and her famous lover Wright is a must read (even for those who don't already love Frank).
Buy Loving Frank new or used at www.betterworldbooks.com - Enjoy!

Hi I'm Roselle Agner and I've been with Better World Books since 2007. It's been great seeing how much our team and clients have grown in the short time I've been here. It's especially exciting to see our social and environmental impact continue to grow with the support of great people such as yourself.
I'm a believer that every person you meet leaves an impression on you. I hope the impression I leave is one of support. If I don't have an answer for you then I'll make sure to find someone who does.
Outside of work I love to cook and try different kinds of food. My favorite day consists waking up to a nice cup of coffee, grocery shopping at a farmer's market, and cooking a delicious meal to share with family and friends. So if you're ever in the Atlanta area let me know and I'll make sure to have some delicious treats waiting for you.
Say hi to Roselle at
ragner@betterworldbooks.com!

Here's a note from a library that has been using our program:
 | "Better World Books has been a great
partner in handling the volume of discards our library system has had
over the past year as we prepared for and implemented RFID tagging. The
money we earn from our online sales goes back into our book budget,
allowing our old books to provide us with fresh new items for our
customers. Our partnership has allowed us to get the best bang for the
buck with less staff involvement and helps staff feel better about
weeding knowing that books are going to a new home."
