Connecting To Various Types of Guides Mar 17, 2006 (83 of 84 found this helpful)
"When you decide to work with spirit guides, you change the rules that govern your life and allow it to become easier. Through these suggested practices, you'll begin to feel the support that the Universe intends for you." - From the book
Author and psychic Sonia Choquette has worked with spirit guides for decades, believing that they are available to all. However, while everyone has the *potential* to be guided, these beings must be invited in order for their help to be activated in our lives.
In her book Ask Your Guides: Connecting to Your Divine Support System, Choquette serves as a cosmic tour guide, preparing readers to navigate the wide world of spirit, including angels and your Higher Self. She explains the difference between Guardian Angels, Archangels, and the Ministry of Angels while describing what it is like to live with angelic influences.
In addition to angels and your Higher Self, the author introduces eight different types of spirit guides:
* Spirit Guides of the Nature Kingdom - Also known as elementals, these guides are spirits of earth, water, fire, and air. They are often known as gnomes, sprites, sylphs, devas, and salamanders and each provide a particular energy depending on the element they're associated with. For example, Choquette says that fire elementals-also known as salamanders (which are not the same as the reptile)-love being watched. In fact, if you ignore them by walking away from a fire, they could burn the place down!
* Runners - These handy guides help you find misplaced or lost items and connect you with things you seek. According to the author, Runners are indigenous souls who once inhabited the area where you reside. For example, Americans often have Native American Runners while those living in New Zealand would have a Maori Runners. They help you find bargains, parking spaces, and even tables at restaurants when you don't have reservations.
* Helpers - These beings are souls of those who have crossed over, often showing up when you're stumped, blocked, or discouraged. They assist with specific tasks, special projects, or hobbies and are especially helpful when they had some level of expertise when they were alive. By helping humans, they are raising their own vibrational frequency in the afterlife.
* Healer Guides - According to Choquette, Healer guides come in two forms: Those who have been healers in past incarnations and seek to help you with healing and those who come from high energetic frequencies but may never been in human form.
* Teacher Guides - Unlike Runners or Helpers, Teacher Guides aren't concerned with the mundane activities day-to-day life. Rather, these beings are devoted to helping us discover life purpose, karma, and soul lessons.
* Animal Guides - As part of the teaching world, animals help us connect to the natural world and offer advice based on their unique characteristics and behaviors. They often appear in the dream state, but also speak to us through actual encounters and synchronistic events.
* Joy Guides - Often mischievous, these guides are inclined to show up when we're bent out of shape, immersed in self-importance, or taking life way too seriously. They soften hearts and satisfy the inner child, inviting generosity, acceptance, and playfulness.
* Light Beings - These high-energy beings are here to assist in raising personal and planetary vibrations.
Choquette also discusses negative entities and how to neutralize them, as well as consulting various divination methods for work with spirit guides.
Written in her characteristic engaging style, Ask Your Guides: Connecting to Your Divine Support System invites us all to take advantage of the spiritual support system that God has designed for our growth and well-being. Obviously, no one can say for sure if the spiritual kingdom is divvied up

You Are Not Alone - Learn to Connect with Your Support Team May 25, 2006 (43 of 45 found this helpful)
Since this is the field that I work in, I usually read as many of these types of books that come out, to see what others are saying and teaching.
I was very pleased with the material that I found in this book, "Ask Your Guides."
You are not alone! There are Angels and Spirit Guides that are always with you. And, in this book, Sonia Choquette teaches you how to prepare, meet and communicate with your Angels and Guides.
Each of us has a support team from higher realms. By following the simple instructions and guidance in Sonia's book, you too, can learn to work with your own "Divine Support System" to enrich your life in many ways.
Sonia writes in a style that is very easy to read. Her instructions are simple and straightforward, leading one gently into communion with the Angels and Guides that are always by our sides, waiting to help and guide us through this journey called life.
I especially liked the fact that she points out that contact with our unseen friends can be very subtle. There are so many ways that our Angels and Guides can communicate with us. You may not see a flash of light, hear a booming voice or have your Master Guide show up in your living room. But, if you follow the methods she presents with love and a desire to communicate, you too, can connect.

Introduction to Divine Guidance from Spirit Guides (Including Angels) Sep 16, 2007 (24 of 24 found this helpful)
*****
This book by Sonia Choquette was a very unusual one for me to read; I am a novice at things like angels, spirit guides, and other divine messengers. I found this book gentle, easy to understand, and a great comprehensive introduction to the various types of spiritual beings. The author also covered things like FAQs about spirit guides, how to prepare to contact spirit guides, names of (and naming) spirit guides, and so much more. It also covered issues such as common objections or problems when beginning to learn about this area, such as negative entities, and myths about spirit guides.
It definitely is a New Age book, but a very grounded and very helpful one. The author is so sincere and approachable that I felt as though I was having a trusted friend explain things to me in a way I could understand.
I would think that everyone who was open would find something to learn here, but I can say for certain that beginners will understand and be as comfortable as one can be with this area when learning about it for the first time.
I enjoyed and felt comfortable by "Ask Your Guides" and would highly recommend it.

A good overview Apr 3, 2008 (10 of 10 found this helpful)
Sonia Choquette: Ask Your Guides
In this book, Sonia not only discusses the various angelic influences on our lives, but also goes into detail regarding the different roles that spirit guides can play in our lives, from "runners" who help us with practical details (yes, like finding a parking space!) to those who help us in a teaching capacity to transcend our egos and become more consciously aware.
I bought Sonia's book about a year ago after a psychic reading in which I was introduced briefly to one of my guides, and it was extremely useful in helping me meet and interact with the various spirits who form my guide team. I would certainly recommend it as an excellent overview of this subject. However, I'd also recommend that you read a variety of sources in this regard. This is mainly because interacting with spirit guides can be like interacting with people on the physical plane - we all have different ways of communicating with others, and what works for one person may not work for another. I certainly found it helpful to read about the different approaches that others have used, and to integrate these into a system that works for me. Ultimately, what matters is developing a strong and clear connection with your guides, and this can be achieved in multiple ways. Apart from Sonia's work in this regard, I've also benefited from the wisdom of Andrea Hess, Slade Roberson and Erin Pavlina. Currently, only Andrea has a book available, but I would encourage you to also visit her blog, as well as those of Slade and Erin.
When it comes to making the decision to buy a book like Sonia's and invest the time and effort into making a connection with your guides, possibly the most important questions needing answering are: Does it "work"? And is it worth it? The answers are: yes. And yes. It may feel strange at first to attempt to connect to your guides, especially since many people worry when they start whether they are really connecting or just making it all up. It is important to remember here that, because our minds bridge the physical and spiritual worlds, our guides use our thoughts and imaginations to connect with us. We have also been used to our guides presence since they've been communicating with us all along - we've just called it "a feeling", or "intuition". At the start it can then definitely feel like we are making it up because it seems so "normal" to us - there are no big booming voices from above! As you persevere, though, you will be able to tell the difference between communication from your guides and your own thoughts as they do have different energy signatures. As you learn more about guides from books like Sonia's, you'll have personal experience that convinces you that it "works". And in terms of it being worth the effort... well, the proof is in the pudding! Your life will be enriched by having access to a group of spiritual beings who love you, support you and guide you towards your highest path and purpose.

A great resource for beginners and experienced folks... just bring your enthusiasm! Jan 8, 2007 (12 of 13 found this helpful)
Sonia Choquette has managed to capture the essence of spirit guides and the role they play in our lives in a manner that is easy-to-read and comprehend. In this book, she describes the various roles of guides and methods of harnessing their input and energy to make progress in your day-to-day life as well as your spiritual journey to Self. This is an excellent resource to which you will refer often.
What touches me most about the book is that she repeats many things that I have heard from other people whom I consider spiritual teachers. It served as a confirmation that what I had heard and experienced was true and common to all, even if unacknowledged.
Choquette describes in pleasing detail the guardian angels, archangels, ministry of angels, and numerous types of spirit guides, offering examples of interaction with each throughout the book. She encourages you to learn to trust in your spirit and what it has to offer as you develop your intuition. While reading, there will surely be some points at which one raises their eyebrow and says, "Hmmm... really?" However, if you follow her techniques, your spirit will guide you to truth.
The words in this book flow into your spirit like a welcome drink of cool water in the summer, one that your soon-to-be recognized guides will undoubtedly sip with you as you read. I know mine did.
