I was pleasantly surprised,I did not expect to enjoy this book so much as it isn't my usual genre. But once I started it I couldn't put it down and read it in one day!The writing is captivating, realistic as well as witty and subtle, and the main character is this irremediable candid and optimistic type of person who just found "the Promised Land" and now is trying to fit in. Mann is dealing with local conventions no one wants to talk about in his own way, he takes some liberties in logic and there are a couple of "he did not just go there" moments, but his funny, also bitter, reflections overcome any of that kind of criticism.I would recommend this book to anyone who wants to learn about Norwegian society and have fun at the same time. And, of course, I'd say "it's a must read" if you are living in Norway, you will enjoy it even more beeing a part of it!
